Quartz Sand Beneficiation and Processing Plant

Purification of quartz sand is the removal of small or trace impurities in quartz to obtain refined quartz sand or high purity quartz materials. At present, there are several below main processes are widely used to purify quartz.
1. Washing, classifying and desliming
If there is much clay in quartz raw ore materials, it is necessary to wash, classify and deslime the raw materials before separation, and the effect is obvious. Commonly used equipment is trommels, hydraulic classifiers and so on.
Scrubbing is that the mechanical force and grinding force between the sands are used to remove the thin film iron, bonding and muddy impurities, and further grind unprepared mineral aggregates on the surface of quartz sand, and then to further purify quartz sand by classification. At present, there are two main methods, rod rubbing and mechanical scrubbing.
3. Magnetic separation
Magnetic separation can eliminate the weakly magnetic impurity minerals including hematite, limonite and biotite. High intensity magnetic separation usually adopts wet high intensity magnetic separator or high gradient magnetic separator. Generally, the quartz sand can be purified by the wet strong magnetic separators if the main impurities are weakly magnetic materials such as limonite, hematite and biotite.
For some quartz ores, flotation is used to separate quartz, mica and feldspar. Generally the purity of quartz sands can reach 99.3%-99.9% which basically meets the needs of industries after washing, desliming, magnetic separation and flotation.
5. Acid leaching
Acid leaching uses the characteristic of quartz which can be dissolved in acid (except HF) and other impurity minerals can be dissolved by acid to achieve further purification of quartz. After acid leaching, high grade quartz with 99.99% purity can be obtained.
